It’s coming. We thought it couldn’t happen. We said, “But Twitter doesn’t have sound!” But somehow, we were wrong. Starting today, the Broadway musical Next To Normal leaps from the stage to the Internet for its Twitter debut.
Holy crap.
The Twitter “performance” goes through June 7, each day presenting a new scene line by line, song by song (the latter are provided through external links). There are already a slew of Tweets today, all of them apparently sent from someone’s Blackberry, which just makes me imagine some crew member backstage during rehearsal frantically punching in each line before his or her cue.
In all seriousness, I think this is a great idea. Certainly not on par with an actual performance, but that’s obviously the point. I’ll be interested to know how many N2N seats are filled over the next several months as a result of the Twitter performance.
So let’s add this to our list of the crazy/creative ways people are using Twitter, shall we? They’re presenting novels and organizing group books, publishing super-flash fiction, and writing poetry. What’s next?
