Oprah's fighting the good fight (see your post about the novel dying) - besides the money, I'm sure Diaz is thrilled at the opportunity to reach such a broad audience. Until I started working on a novel I had no clue of how much work it would be, but it is a labor of love and while it seems to non-writers to be taking an inordinately long time to complete, based on comments from writers I am within the normal range. Not because I'm a particularly mean-spirited person (only SLIGHTLY mean-spirited, you see), but because it's so reassuring to hear that Successful Writers Are Real People, Too. I keep thinking they have these magic powers wherein all they have to do is hover their fingers over their keyboards and then, voila, they have their final draft.
