Welcome to this week’s Free Book Friday, wherein we give you the best titles in indie publishing for the low low price of nothing. Congrats to last week’s winner Marcella Kocolatos for snagging a copy of The Hidden Chorus from The New York Writers Coalition.

From Kingsbridge to Carnasie by the New York Writers Coalition

This week, we are giving away a copy of From Kingsbridge to Carnasie. Through writing, interviews, and photography, neighborhood writers create portraits of New York City, then edit the stories with the neighborhoods to ensure authenticity in New York Writers Coalition’s newest publication. This book, in eight distinct voices, vibrantly paints what it is to be young and female and coming of age in New York City. It is a documentary book project that replicates the highly successful and innovative New Orleans-based Neighborhood Story Project.

This week’s Free Book Friday is sponsored by the NY Writers Coalition (NYWC). NYWC provides free and low-cost creative writing workshops throughout New York City for people from groups that have been historically deprived of voice in our society. In the past year, NYWC operated more than 1,000 workshops in 45 locations, for the homeless and formerly homeless, war veterans, seniors, the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated, at-risk/disconnected youth and many others. NYWC also publishes their workshop participants’ writing and organizes public readings of their work. Writing with others in an atmosphere of respect and acceptance, participants discover the value of their own stories, gain confidence and a stronger sense of self and become less isolated from themselves and from society. By creating a community of writers and leaders from diverse backgrounds, NYWC galvanizes the voices of the marginalized and creates opportunities for all writers to connect with the larger community.

To enter the giveaway, all you have to do is comment in the space below or send an email directly to contact@litdrift.com. Make sure to tell us your email address so we can contact you if you win! We also recommend doing any or all of the following:

  • Signing up for NYWC’s mailing list
  • Becoming NYWC’s friend on Twitter and/or Facebook
  • Tweeting about this week’s giveaway
  • Becoming our friend on Twitter, Facebook, and/or StumbleUpon
  • Signing up for our newsletter
  • Sharing this week’s Free Book Friday with a young writer you know

Winner will be chosen randomly at 12pm on Friday, November 20. The winner must provide his/her mailing address via email within 48 hours, or a new winner will be randomly selected.

Good luck!

Congrats to LILIAN for winning this week! Try your luck again with Counterpoint’s Floodmarkers by Nic Brown.
