Lit Drift is a blog, resource, and community dedicated to the art & craft of storytelling in the 21st century. Our name is a nod to how traditional forms of storytelling are, well, drifting into forms wholly new and unexpected. We’re interested in sifting through the palimpsests known as the Internet, the arts, and the in-between to uncover those new forms and techniques in constructing fiction.

We believe that literature should be fun in an age when it’s only too easy to turn on the TV and watch shitcoms instead. We also believe that changing technologies and cultural trends can liberate fiction rather than oppress it. We believe that everyone—yes, everyone—should take pleasure in creating their own fiction, and we want to help our readers tell the best stories they possibly can.

For the time being, Lit Drift is composed of a blog, which we update multiple times each week to report on emerging trends in storytelling and to showcase the latest in notable works, as well as two other nifty features:

The Lit Drift Daily Prompt
Just as we think people should read/view/listen to stories, we believe it’s equally important—if not more—for people to flex some creative muscle and tell their own stories. To that end, we give you the Lit Drift Daily Prompt, a quick bite of inspiration to get you going for a few minutes each day.

Free Book Friday
Really, totally free books. Just for you. No strings.

Lastly, we believe in the immense value of two-way conversation. So we have provided plenty of space for you to talk back to us and build on the discussion by commenting on our blog posts, reacting to the Featured Story, and sharing your work from our Daily Prompt. If you prefer to get in touch with us one-on-one, you can contact a specific contributor at left or send us a tip at contact@litdrift.com.
